The causes of the ozone depletion

The initial step in the depletion of stratospheric ozone by human activities is the emission gases contain various combinations of the chemical elements chlorine, fluorine, bromine, carbon, and hydrogen that are often described with the general term ozone depleting substances.

Ozone depleting substances are: Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), halon, carbon tetrachloride(CTC), Methyl bromide (MBr), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), hydrobromofluorocarbons (HBFCs),  methyl chloroform and bromochloromethane (BCM). They are widely used in many appliances, including refrigeration, air conditioners, foam blowing, cleaning of electronics components, as solvents and as fire extinguishers.
